Chief Executive James Parker

Network Rail,

RE: Proposed Closure of six of Bishop’s Stortford railway crossings

I am writing to you on behalf of Bishop’s Stortford Town Council’s Planning and Development committee with regards to the proposed closure of six of Bishop’s Stortford railway crossings.

The committee is concerned that Network Rail are proposing to close a number of pedestrian rail crossings on the main line from Liverpool Street to Cambridge and Stansted Airport. These closures if implemented will have a detrimental effect on local residents of Bishop’s Stortford. The committee understand the importance of retaining historic public rights of way for the lifestyle of Bishop’s Stortford residents- cyclists, walkers, and local residents of all ages, will be adversely affected. These crossings are used very frequently.

The committee oppose any proposed closure of public rights of way unless Network Rail fully commit to providing a suitable and relevant alternative route and one which is agreed by users.

Thank you for your help with this matter.

Kind regards,

Chairman of Bishop’s Stortford Town Council’s Planning and Development committee Silver Leys Ward Councillor, Bishop’s Stortford Town Council cc.
