Phil Tripp (1925-2019)

We are sad to report that Phil Tripp passed away peacefully at Princes Alexandria Hospital on 8th January aged 93 years. His funeral service will be held at Parndon Wood Crematorium on Friday, 25th January at 1.45pm.

Phil stepped down from the BSDFA committee in 2014 having been involved with the Association in various roles for over 50 years including the post of Chairman on several occasions.

His connections go back to the very early days of the BSDFA and over the years he amassed a huge amount of knowledge regarding the local rights of way network and the law that governs them.

This proved invaluable in the many local campaigns that he spearheaded on behalf of the BSDFA, the last being the fight against the proposed closure of the public footpath through the grounds of the Anglo-European School at Hockerill.

During an eight year campaign Phil tenaciously fought a campaign to protect this well used local path from closure which involved monitoring user numbers and presenting his finding to a public hearing.

Phil was a true gentlemen and we will miss him.

Thanks a lovely tribute to my Dad. On family walks he was never without an ordinance survey map and secateurs. We will be at Old Bell Inn Sawbridgeworth after the funeral, do join us for a pint of real ale, a walk and a pint!
