BISHOP’S STORTFORD FOOTPATH 061

A new planning application to redevelop the Shell Garage on Stansted Road presents an ideal opportunity to make much needed improvements to BS Footpath 061. The footpath runs alongside the site’s northern boundary and provides a useful traffic free cut through between Stansted Road and Cannons Mill Lane. Unfortunately, it’s not in a good condition, particularly at the Stansted Road end where it is constrained by the garage’s perimeter fence and a hedge line that borders the adjacent houses. One particular tree has a large bough hanging over the footpath at head height.

The Planning Application has identified that work needs to be done outside of the site boundary to address tree problems. On the northern boundary the developers ‘Tree Constraints Plan’ has proposed the removal of a large sycamore that overhangs the site and the public footpath. The BSDFA has asked the County Council to take this opportunity to work with the Applicant to improve the condition of the footpath along the length of the boundary.
