About Us

The Bishop’s Stortford & District Footpaths Association was founded in 1957 to preserve, protect and maintain the public Rights of Way network and rural verges in the Herts and Essex border area around Bishop’s Stortford.  We are a registered charity, No. 1068733.

We liaise with local planning and highways authorities and monitor proposals affecting public footpaths and bridleways.  Vigilance has fast become the order of the day since our countryside is under threat from house building, road construction and airport expansion proposals – all on a gargantuan scale.

If you are an active walker, our walks programmes will provide opportunity to share walks with others and discover new paths.  Currently our walks are usually between 4 and 6 miles long, lasting two to three hours.

We have published several booklets recommending walks on circular and linear routes. The latest booklet, Walks in Herts & Essex Vol 4, is available from the Tourist lnformation Centre and Amazon.

All are welcome to walk with us, but if you would like to join the Association and receive email news bulletins please complete and return our membership form.
