BISHOP’S STORTFORD FOOTPATH 078 – FLOODED UNDERPASS

Another long running saga involves the flooded underpass that takes Bishop’s Stortford Footpath 078 under Bishop’s Park Way (the BS bypass). It has been impassable for several months now forcing pedestrians to cross an increasingly busy road. We had similar problems back in 2022 which were addressed when a faulty pump was repaired. We understand that there is a similar problem today caused by roots blocking a drainage pipe from the pump.

Cllr Miriam Swainston (Bishop’s Stortford West) has been on the case and reports:

“I understand that work has started on the underpass. It transpires that roots had blocked the drainage pipe from the pump and stopped it from working. This has now been cleared and water is being pumped out, which may take several days. Once emptied, the underpass will be cleaned and a temporary pumping system put in place until a full repair can be done. Hopefully, the underpass will soon be usable again.”

Hopefully this is the case and access can be restored within the next few days.
