We have confirmed with the Bishop’s Stortford North Consortium that Bishop’s Stortford Footpath 002 has been partially reopened. The public can now access the footpath from Dane O’Coys and walk approximately 500 metres north. The footpath will not be fully open until a new access road into the estate from the bypass has been constructed. Given that this work has not yet started, I suspect it will be some time before the public will be able to walk its full length.
The character of the footpath is now very different from the earthen track that formerly crossed the fields, but this is to be expected, given that it now passes through a largely urban environment. Positively, the path retains an open aspect and there is good evidence of landscaping underway along its route. There are also a number of connecting paths under construction which will link to other parts of the development. Most importantly it will provide a good option for students walking to and from the Avanti Grange High School.
You’ll see from the photos that the path is reasonably wide with a hard surface and I suspect that it will prove attractive to cyclists even if barriers are erected. Realistically, I suspect that there is not a lot that we can do about this.
