OK Quiz time…what does the BSDFA stand for?
Answer: Bishop’s Stortford and District Footpaths Association. The BSDFA!!!
The words to remember are – ‘AND DISTRICT’…. This local organisation embodies a wide local area.
This local voluntary organisation has its roots dating back to 1957 – It is a multi-aged group who enjoy walking the very many and generous number of footpaths, bridle-ways, and bi-ways in our area and who wish to ensure they are well maintained and available FREE FOR ALL for the foreseeable future. Our area encompasses north Harlow, Stortford, Hatfield Heath, Stansted, Birchanger, Much Hadham, Little Hadham and all the super villages around and en-route to Saffron Walden. We walk twice a month, on a Sunday, in the morning, gathering for set-off at 10.00am sharp, so there is plenty of time after a 5-6mile walk to enjoy the rest of the day participating in other activities and being with the family. This is not an all-enveloping commitment, simply come when you can and join in.
It is not an expensive experience. You do, however, need to have suitable clothes and sensible shoes or boots particularly if it is bad weather or has been raining in the days before as we do walk over fields. WE DO NOT HURTLE ALONG but we like to be back at our starting point at 12.30-1pm. Bring a banana and water if you wish, and we can normally accommodate a dog on a lead. As a bonus, sometimes there is a pub at our start/end point. We have some stunning local countryside, animals, plants and birds in the Herts/Essex borders which we will see, walk and talk through. Yes, all this, and your weekly exercise too. Remember we need to leave at 10.00 so allow sufficient time to park & change into boots and whatever! Come and see a buzzard in flight!!
