We have recently been in contact with the Herts County Council, Countryside & Rights of Way team, regarding the poor condition of the above-mentioned public footpath. The footpath forms part of an important east-west pedestrian link from the Parsonage Estate, via Cannons Mill Lane, to Grange Paddocks and Rye Street. The approval of a new Lidl supermarket on Stansted Road is likely to increase footfall in the future. We are particularly concerned about the Stansted Road junction where a steep set of poorly maintained steps reach the main road (see photos). There appears to be plenty of space here to make some improvements.
Our local Countryside & Rights of Way Officer has confirmed that they are looking at possible improvements but that it’s a challenging site. Clearly something needs to be done and we will keep you informed of developments.
