DIVERSION ORDER 2025 – Bishop’s Stortford Footpath 007

For many years we have been concerned about the above-mentioned public footpath which cuts across the Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club (BSRC) sports pitches. The problem has been exacerbated by the BSRC installing a barrier around the main pitch which has impeded the right of way. There was logic for the BSRC to work with the HCC Rights of Way team to have the footpath diverted around the border of the playing fields. It’s a slightly longer route but preferable to being caught up in the middle of a rugby match. The BSDFA has long supported this solution which was championed by David Glass a former committee member.

The Diversion Order is made by Hertfordshire County Council under section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 – full details are attached. If you have an issue with the Order then you are entitled to make a representation or objection to the Order in the four weeks while the Order is being advertised. This must be made in writing, addressed to Alex Swanston before the 17 July 2025 and should include the reasons for making an objection or representation.
