RIVER STORT – TOWPATH PROBLEMS

The section of towpath between Spellbrook Lane East and the footbridge leading into the Thorley Wash Nature Reserve is currently in a very poor state following flooding from the adjacent Wallbury estate. The towpath has water channels cutting across several sections and the damage has been exacerbated by heavy footfall and cycle use. We managed to get the Canal & River Trust (CRT) to undertake emergency repairs last year to two sections of flood damaged towpath adjacent to the Thorley Wash Nature Reserve and we will ask them to inspect this latest damage.

There also a fallen tree blocking the towpath north of the Thorley Wash footbridge which we will also bring to their attention.

Unfortunately, like many guardians of our public infrastructure, the CRT had it’s Central Government funding cut last year which will make the upkeep of our towpaths even more challenging.
