Thursday 3rd May 2012:
The area around the River Rib near Standon is flooded and many paths are currently resembling streams. The River Rib has burst its banks in several places. Some lanes, footpaths and bridleways are under several feet of water – Barwick Ford was unreachable.

Only four braved the elements for todays walk. Whilst the weather wasn’t as bad as we were expecting, the ground was very wet and muddy and in one place it was almost impassable – deep water surrounding a stile forcing us to walk through ankle deep water. The first walk of the Spring/Summer walks program saw another good turn out (24 plus a dog) for a 6 mile walk from Newport station.We headed uphill out of Newport towards Debden Park with a break at Debden Churchyard before walking back through the meadows flanking Debden Water.
